About this design
The Sunflower is a step up from the starter templates: a 45×45 grid and rounded petals that need attention at the colour-change points. The result is a properly recognisable bloom, not a stylised symbol but a flower.
Use a chunky-weight yarn and it makes a generous cushion cover. In DK it works well as a wall hanging or a large square in a sampler throw. The gold petals and dark centre give a strong silhouette that reads from a distance, which is what makes graphghan flowers look like flowers rather than abstract blobs.
The Sunflower is one of Bobble's free templates: open it in Bobble, change the colours if you like, and follow it row by row.
Good for
- Summer cushion cover

45 by 45 squares, 2025 stitches in total. Worked in single crochet it comes out at about 25 by 23 cm (10 by 9 in).

DK-weight yarn in 3 colours, with a 4 mm hook: about 61 m of White, 36 m of Gold and 16 m of Dark Brown, including a 10% allowance for tension and tails.

Yes. It is a colour grid, so it works either row by row or on the diagonal. Make Mode takes you through it in Single crochet (SC), and the grid is the same whichever you choose.
