Crochet row tracker for C2C and tapestry graphs
Make Mode is Bobble’s row tracker for crochet graphs: it takes you through a C2C, rows or tapestry chart row by row, one run of stitches at a time, and keeps your place between sittings. It is free for flat charts, bauble covers and the Daisy Tote, with no card, and works in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
What Make Mode does, row by row
Make Mode shows the row you are on, one run of stitches at a time: how many, and in which colour. Tap Next after each run, Undo to step back, and Skip to next row or Jump to row to move on. It shows which way each row runs, counts your stitches, marks the row on the chart and tells you when the last stitch is done.
It keeps the screen awake while you crochet, and you can add a note to any row.
How to keep track of rows on a crochet graph
- Make or open the chart. Add a photo in the Maker, or open one of Bobble’s designs, and choose C2C, rows or tapestry.
- Start making. Tap Start making. Bobble saves the project and opens Make Mode on row 1.
- Work each run. Make Mode shows how many stitches to work and in which colour. Tap Next after each run, or Undo to step back.
- Come back to it. Close the app whenever you like. Choose Continue making on Home and Make Mode opens where you left off.
On a C2C graph
In C2C each row is a diagonal of blocks. Row 1 is the bottom-right square of the chart, and each diagonal after it grows by a block until the widest one, then shrinks to the opposite corner. Make Mode takes you along each diagonal run by run, how many blocks and in which colour, so you never count squares across the graph by eye. The C2C graphghan guide covers the stitch.
On a rows or tapestry graph
In rows and tapestry each square is one stitch, a double crochet in UK terms or a single crochet in US terms, and row 1 is the bottom row of the chart. Make Mode shows the direction of every row, so you know which end of the graph to read from. In tapestry, Bobble adds the yarn you carry inside the stitches to each colour’s amount. See how to read a crochet chart for the grid itself.
Where your place is saved
Make Mode saves your row and run as you go, so you can put the hook down for a week and carry on from the same stitch. Without an account, the project stays in that browser. A free Google sign-in saves it to your account, and it opens where you left off on every device you sign in on.
What is free
Make Mode, the chart and the yarn amounts are free for flat charts, bauble covers and the Daisy Tote, with no card. Other tote bags, worked in rounds, are part of Bobble Pro, and so are the written rows in UK or US terms and every download. The Red Heart comes with free written instructions.
For a first graph, start from one of the free beginner patterns in the Gallery, or make your own on the crochet chart, graph and grid maker.
Common questions
Is the row tracker free?
Yes, for flat charts in C2C, rows or tapestry, bauble covers and the Daisy Tote, with no card. Other tote bags in rounds are part of Bobble Pro.
Does it work for C2C graphs?
Yes. In C2C each row is a diagonal of blocks, starting from the bottom-right square of the chart, and Make Mode takes you along each one run by run: how many blocks, and in which colour.
Will it keep my place if I close the app?
Yes. Make Mode saves your row and run as you go. Signed out, the project stays in that browser; signed in, it is saved to your account and opens where you left off on every device you sign in on.
Can I track a pattern I bought somewhere else?
No. Make Mode follows charts made in Bobble, from your photo or one of Bobble’s designs. It does not open a pattern file from another site.
